Color Focus: Orchid

Purple shades have been very popular in the last few years, yet sometimes they scare the client or can only be used as a pop accent. I had a feeling they would eventually mature into more complex shades sooner or later. This new plum is dark, deep and in the right light, a new version of black. It has a vintage feel, is a little exotic and very daring without raising its voice. This orchid shade is luxurious, fashion forward and very now. Design Focus: Milan

Milan is a design I created to highlight the fine threads of a hand woven silk crepe. It all started with a small piece of fabric I found in the Paris textile district. I loved it and wanted to try and recreate it as a wall covering. After many painted versions I was able to capture the desired effect and highlighted it with a pearlized horizontal emboss. The final design is natural and very couture. A vertical layered stripe with soft edges, Milan is a nod to the fashions seen on the runways of Italy, inspired by Paris. Shown from top left: Milan in Amaretto R2-ML-04 and Neutrino R2-ML-07; Lighting at the JB Rivers restaurant, Johannesburg, South Africa; Milan runway 2011; Milan in Truffle R2-ML-09; Alexander McQueen dress Spring 2012; Black vintage silk clutch; Lighting by Aqua Creations; Louboutain Nude silk pump.

Scraplights- Grey Pants

While I was in New York a few weeks ago I photographed these amazing lamps by Grey Pants. They are made of salvaged pieces of corrugated cardboard. I found the texture of this simple material to be quite beautiful. For more info or to buy a Scraplight visit http://www.graypants.com/

Earthy Patchwork Hues

Not only are we seeing pastels on the runway, but we are also seeing an earthier version current in the stores today. Pigment based with a painterly edge, the shades work well with each other. Almost in a rainbow sort of way these mid range colors look great when mixed together. Whether it is a patchwork dress, shoe or bag these dusty mellow colors are playfully new.
